Violet (Viola riviniana)

This small, purple flower is a familiar spring plant found in the wild throughout Scotland, in a wide range of sites from woodlands & grasslands to heathland & hedgerows. It forms low clumps with distinctive glossy dark green heart-shaped leaves & is the food plant for a number of butterflies including the Pearl-bordered Fritillary.

Sowing: Can be sown at any time of year, but best in early autumn or in spring. Sow in trays or pots of moist compost & transplant to an open or partly-shaded site or scatter the seed directly onto a fine-raked seed bed & firm down well. Keep young plants watered & weeded.

75-150 seeds per packet.
