Sea Campion (Silene uniflora)

This pretty, white flowered, low growing plant has fleshy grey leaves and, like its close relative Bladder Campion, Sea Campion’s calyx (the structure below its petals) is a delicate bladder shape. As a wildflower happy in maritime conditions its is tolerant of salt spray and found in sunny, exposed places. It prefers a well-drained soil in a sunny position. Perennial, 10 -20cm high.

Sowing:  Can be sown at any time of year, but best in early autumn or in spring.  Sow in trays or pots of moist compost and transplant to an open, well drained, sunny site or scatter directly onto a fine raked seed bed and firm down well.  Water well and keep the young plants weeded.

250-350 seeds per packet.
