St John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum)

St Johns Wort was traditionally used to light the sacred Beltane bonfires of spring as well as for its numerous medicinal qualities. It is a common perennial plant of grassland and hedgerows in southern Scotland with clusters of glossy yellow-orange flowers from June to September. Up to 100cm tall.

Sowing: Can be sown at any time of year, but best in early autumn or in spring. Sow in trays or pots of moist compost and transplant to a lightly shaded or sunny site, or sow directly at the site on the surface of a finely prepared seed bed pressing down lightly. Water well and keep young plants weeded.

1000+ seed per packet.
