Teasel (Dipsacus fullonum)

Also known as Venus-Basins in Scots, Teasel is found in the wild in south and east Scotland. In mid to late summer, small lilac flowers, enjoyed by butterflies and bees, appear on the large, ‘hedgehog’ seed-heads. In winter the attractive seed-heads remain and are a favourite of birds including Goldfinches. Teasels were historically used for carding wool and producing dye. Grows up to 200 cm tall.
