Viper’s Bugloss (Echium vulgare)

A vividly coloured biennial, found in the wild around cliffs of south and east Scotland, Viper’s Bugloss produces spectacular spikes of purple/blue flowers, tinged with magenta pink from May to August. Bees, butterflies and moths love this plant. Grows up to 100cm tall.

Sowing: Can be sown at any time of year, but best in early autumn or in spring. Sow in trays or pots of moist compost and transplant when still small to a sunny, well-drained site, or scatter the seed directly onto a fine-raked seed bed and firm down well. Water well and keep young plants weeded.

50-150 seeds per packet.
